How Did We Become a Church?

Pastor Mike began praying about starting a new church in 2001.  His vision was to start a church that was outwardly-focused, relevant, casual, and yet didn’t compromise in biblical soundness.  In the fall of 2004, God began laying the small, yet rapidly growing, town of Morrisville, NC on the hearts of both Mike and his wife, Courtney.

In the spring of 2005, a small group of families began meeting together with an interest in starting a new church in the Morrisville area.  By summer, a launch team of fourteen adults and 2 kids was formed that met weekly for Bible Study, worship, and planning.  This group began to grow in number and in their passion for seeing the community of Morrisville become fully-developed followers of Christ. By the fall of 2005, the launch team began to meet weekly at Stewart Engineering in Morrisville. 

On January 22, 2006, The Bridge Community Church held its first public service at the Sigma Xi building in the Research Triangle Park.  This service, the first of three preview services, was attended by 100 people!  The Bridge launched the official Grand Opening with weekly services, on April 16th, 2006, Easter Sunday.   Before long it became apparent that the church needed to find a new location as our nursery was over-flowing!  An answer to prayer came when we were offered to use the space at KidsRKids on McCrimmon Drive in the heart of Morrisville.  On September 10th, 2006 we moved to our new home. 

In 2006, three new staff were added to The Bridge.  Tim Walters joined as the connections pastor, Matt Windley accepted the position of outreach pastor and Cary Penrose became the worship leader. 

We are filled with a sense of amazement and joy at what God is doing in and through this new church.  Our beginning is not only our story, but His Story – as it is only by God’s power and grace that our church is what it is today.
